Dries Van Noten is one of the most influential designers of the '80s and '90s. Born in a family with an ancient tailoring tradition, from a young age he dedicated himself to creating clothes, at the beginning working freelance for clients like Barney's, Pauw and Whistles. In 1985 he founded his own fashion label and launched the Dries Van Noten men's and women's prêt-à-porter collections that, in a few seasons, will establish him at international level. Dries Van Noten's style makes great use of prints, mainly with ethnic patterns, the creation of layered clothing items and use of noticeably original fabrics and colours. Defined by many as one of the cerebral designers, his style is characterised by the combination of classic shapes and technological and experimental materials, giving life to original and high quality tailoring items. The brand stands out even thanks to some strategic choices, such as that not to make high fashion collections but only ready-to-wear ones, or the decision to not use advertising to promote his creations.
